Yankees starting pitcher, Buddy Carlyle, pitched well in a no decision against the Wichita Rays. Carlyle arguably "out pitched" John Smoltz. Carlyle went 7 strong innings, gave up 5 hits, 1 earned run while walking 1 and striking out 10. Unfortunately for the Bronx Bombers, Mariano Rivera could not hold the lead in the 9th and recorded his 6th blown save of the season.
The Rays won the game in 14 innings 3-2.
On a side note, recently acquired outfielder, Delmon Young, recorded his first hit in pinstripes. Young was 1-for-6 with an rbi.
